The Guardian and her team thanked the office’s Youth Advisors and wished them well at a luncheon on 28 November. The Youth Advisor panel model will be replaced in the new year by an outreach model that will set out to engage a larger number and a greater diversity of young people across the state.
‘Some of our Youth Advisors have been with us since the very beginning of the Office and they have been at the heart and soul of our work,’ said Guardian Pam Simmons.
‘Not only have they provided invaluable advice and insight but we have had the opportunity to get to know them well and shared a small part of their adventures.
‘Although this is the end of our formal association, they will continue to assist with the new model of participation. We are very grateful for the time and effort all the Youth Advisors have volunteered over the past nine years.’
Active and authentic engagement with young people will remain at the core of the Office’s work. Solid research and consultation has gone into a new model which will see the office partnering with other organisations to consult young people and continue to involve young people in all project work of the Office.
