We are currently hiring for the following positions:

ASO2 Administration Officer
Are you proactive and detail-oriented with a passion for providing administrative support? The Office of the Guardian for Children and Young People (OGCYP) is seeking a dedicated Administration Officer to join our team.

In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the smooth operation of our office by delivering efficient, confidential, and high-quality administrative services. Working closely with the Business Manager and Guardian, you will support the essential work we do to advocate for and protect the rights of children and young people in care.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to OGCYP.
  • Perform general office duties, including scanning, photocopying, filing, and managing correspondence and stationery supplies.
  • Maintain accurate records, databases, and regulatory documentation, as well as manage HR and asset systems.
  • Assist with financial tasks, such as processing accounts/invoices, reconciling corporate purchase cards, and managing cab charge e-tickets.
  • Support training and event records, manage schedules and calendars, and coordinate resources for stakeholders, including children and young people.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence and provide backup support for other administrative roles as needed.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to the public, referring queries appropriately, including those from children and young people.
  • Organise travel arrangements using the government travel booking tool (CTM).
  • Contribute to the achievement of OGCYP’s team and organisational objectives.

ASO8 Principal Aboriginal Advocate
The Principal Aboriginal Advocate supports the Guardian for Children and Young People (Guardian) to manage visiting programs and associated activities as it relates to Aboriginal children and young people under her several mandates, and specifically with respect to –

  1. Visiting pursuant to s.14(1)(a) of the Youth Justice Administration Act 2016
  2. The Guardian’s Monitoring role under s.26(1)(c) of the Children and Young People (Oversight and Advocacy Bodies) Act 2016
  3. The Child and Young Person’s Visitor role for children and young people living in out-of-home care under Chapter 9 of the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017, and
  4. The Youth Treatment Orders Visitor role established under Part 7A of the Controlled Substances Act 1984.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading operational and strategic advice and advocacy for Aboriginal children and young people.
  • Providing high-quality advice across the OGCYP on Aboriginal cultural needs, and the rights of children and young people who fall within the remit of the Guardians and Visitors functions. This includes a focus on both operational and systemic matters.
  • Contribute to meeting the statutory functions across all relevant mandates.
  • Contribute to visits and inspections of facilities as part of the Child and Young Person’s Visitor Program and Training Centre Visitor Program.
  • Auditing files and reviews for Aboriginal children and young people in out-of-home care and/or youth detention.
  • Communicating and acting as an advocate for Aboriginal children and young people living in residential care, family-based care, and youth detention facilities, as required.
  • Working in collaboration with other members of the OGCYP Advocacy and Visiting Teams to share responsibility for answering queries from Aboriginal children and young people within the Guardian’s broader mandate and undertaking individual and systemic advocacy, as required.
  • Contributing to the reporting of Aboriginal children’s circumstances through the OGCYP community visiting and monitoring frameworks.
  • Working with the Guardian, be a member of the leadership team and provide insight to other OGCYP staff on projects and policy work that address systemic issues.
