Welcoming Ally to our team

Meet Ally, our new Assessment and Referral Officer. Ally will be supporting our Advocacy team by receiving and responding to all new enquiries from parents, carers, professionals, members of the community and, at times, directly from children and young people in care.

Ally is passionate about working with children and young people in care to support them to navigate the child protection system and to provide support for them to thrive and to be heard.  We sat down with Ally to find out more about her.

Tell us about your career to date?

I completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science and started my career at TSA SILS (previously known as Muggy’s South) where I was there for five and a half years as a Case Manager. Following this, I moved to DCP Inner South as a Senior Case Manager in the guardianship team. Now I’m here.

How do you think the learnings from your previous roles will support this role within OGCYP?

My time with Muggy’s gave me an amazing space to work closely with young people in independent living and hear their voices. I have a really good understanding of the way DCP works (particularly in the guardianship space) and the limitations and challenges that present for the children and young people in care.

What inspires you to work with children and young people in care?

The strength and bravery children and young people in care show is an inspiration to me. I want to be part of a team of people that can support them to know their worth and to thrive through the overwhelming challenges they constantly face.

If you could say one thing to the children and young people living in care, what would it be?

You matter.

What are you most looking forward to in the role?

Being part of a team of people who advocate for children and young people’s best interest.

What three words would your friends and family use to describe you?

Loud, passionate and energetic.

What do you do when you’re not working?

Spend time with my friends, my husband Hayden, and my golden retriever Frank. I also love to do pilates and going for walks on the beach.
